STATEHOUSE -

State Senator Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton) today announced the state's approval of a $42 million funding request for the Lake Local School District construction project.

“I am extremely pleased that the Lake Local School District will be receiving funds from the Ohio School Facilities Commission through the Classroom Facilities Assistance Program,” said Oelslager. “The money secured through this program, along with local funding, will positively impact the ability of the school district to effectively educate our young people by ensuring access to excellent facilities.”

The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission approved the request to fund 47 percent of the total $89.4 million construction cost. The project will consist of building one new elementary school to house students in grade 2 through 6; renovations and additions to Uniontown Elementary School to house students in pre-kindergarten through first grade; and renovations, addition and partial demolition of Lake High/Middle School to house students in grades 7 through 12 and career technical education programs.

The district was able to secure its share of local funding with the passage of a bond levy during the May 2015 primary. School districts must raise their local share of project funding before funds will be awarded.

The Ohio Controlling Board is scheduled to meet July 20 to officially release the funds for use by the school district.
