Columbus -
State Senator Scott Oelslager (R- North Canton) voted Wednesday in favor of landmark legislation designed to revitalize Ohio's economy and streamline job creation efforts across the state. The Senate gave bipartisan support to House Bill 1, also known as the JobsOhio plan, with a vote of 31-2. It allows the creation of a separate department that will focus exclusively on state job creation and retention. "It's time to think outside the box when it comes to job creation in Ohio," Oelslager said. "This is a global and fast-paced economy. We have more and more technological advancements every day. I supported this bill because I want to make sure that Ohio is at the heart of it all. This legislation will allow us to bring in more jobs and business by creating a bold, innovative approach to our economic development efforts." As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, Oelslager worked diligently with the other members to ensure that appropriate accountability standards were included in the legislation. The Senate added more than two-dozen amendments to the bill designed to increase the level of transparency and responsibility of the new organization and its employees. House Bill 1 now awaits Governor Kasich's signature to become law. If you are interested in viewing the full language or a summary of this bill, you can visit
