State Senator Scott Oelslager (R-North Canton) today announced the release of state capital dollars for Stark State, which will allow the college to provide in-demand training and resources to support the region's growing manufacturing and energy industries.

The Controlling Board released $300,000 to the Stark State College of Technology for the purchase of a mobile welding lab. Access to the new welding lab will allow local manufacturing partners to enhance welder certification programs and provide students skilled training opportunities in a high-tech environment. The twelve new student stations will help to provide customized educational programming. Collaboration between Team NEO, MAGNET, the Stark Development Board, the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and local school districts helped to create this added certification opportunity.

Additionally, $500,000 was released to the college for the purchase of 3-D printers to create the Stark State College of Technology 3-D Center. This advancement will be shared with local industries for training purposes to support regional economic development.

“What a great triumph for Stark County and northeast Ohio,” said Oelslager. "This advanced technical equipment is an exciting prospect for students, and I am eager to see the direct impact it will have on our expanding industries. Access to both the welding lab and the 3-D printers will, no doubt, lead to the creation of a strengthened workforce.”
