COLUMBUS—State Senator Bob Peterson (R-Washington Court House) today applauded the announcement of local investments through the Clean Ohio Trails Fund, NatureWorks and Recreational Trails grant programs, which seek to improve outdoor recreational opportunities for Ohio families and promote tourism.

Thirteen area parks across nine counties were chosen to receive funding as part of the recent announcement by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Funding will be distributed from three programs administered by the Department, totaling more than $400,000 for local parks.

"Well maintained parks contribute to an enhanced quality of life for area residents and help spur our local tourism industry," said Peterson. "Ohio's vibrant park system is one of the finest in the nation, thanks to important investments like these."

Clean Ohio Trails Fund: Clean Ohio Trails Fund grants are used to acquire land for new trails and to help build and improve trail infrastructure, linking statewide trails and connections from urban areas to recreational areas. The investments help facilitate travel and provide safe and scenic trails where Ohioans can hike, bike, run or roll to build healthy lifestyles.

Recreational Trails Program: ODNR administers federal Recreational Trails Program grants for the development and improvement of non-motorized and motorized trails. Projects include the creation, expansion, restoration and maintenance of trails and trail support facilities.

NatureWorks: NatureWorks state grants are used to develop and improve public access to outdoor recreation facilities across Ohio. Projects will include the development or improvement of restrooms, basketball courts, playgrounds, dog parks, trails, accessible facilities and much more.

Remembering Accomplishments In 2017 And Setting New Goals For 2018

With 2017 behind us, the Ohio General Assembly is now over halfway through its legislative session. This point provides us with the opportunity to take stock of where we are and where we want to go. I was proud to support bills last year that created greater workforce opportunities, provided relief and support for Ohio's agriculture industry, and created a better environment for Ohioans to grow and prosper. I am proud of what we accomplished last year, and I am optimistic about the continuing positive impacts we will make on our communities.
