COLUMBUS—Members of the Ohio Senate Majority Caucus today unanimously elected Senator Senator Bob Peterson (R-Washington Court House) to serve as President Pro Tempore of the Ohio Senate for the 132nd General Assembly.

“I am humbled that my colleagues have chosen me to serve as President Pro Tempore of the Ohio Senate,” said Senator Peterson. “Ohio has come a long way, but we must remain diligent in our efforts to improve the state’s business climate and promote job creation, which benefits Ohio families."

Senator Peterson will officially assume his role as President Pro Tempore, on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 along with Senate President-elect Larry Obhof (R-Medina), Senator Randy Gardner (R-Bowling Green) as Majority Floor Leader and Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) reelected as Majority Whip.

Senator Peterson has served in the Ohio Senate since 2012. He currently chairs the Senate Ways and Means Committee, which oversees legislation that affects state and local government revenues as well as tax collection. Before coming to the Ohio Senate, Senator Peterson served a term in the House of Representatives and 14 years as a Fayette County Commissioner. A lifelong farmer, Senator Peterson and his wife, Lisa, continue to operate their family farm in Fayette County where they live with their three children, Sarah, Hannah and Todd.

COLUMBUS—State Senator Bob Peterson (R-Washington Court House) announced that this week the Ohio Senate unanimously passed a plan to reform the process for drawing Ohio’s congressional districts. With a strong bipartisan vote in the Ohio House today, Substitute Senate Joint Resolution 5  will now go before Ohio voters on the May ballot. The passage of Sub SJR 5 follows weeks of negotiations between the leadership of both parties in the General Assembly and various redistricting reform coalitions.



 
 

Remembering Accomplishments In 2017 And Setting New Goals For 2018

 

With 2017 behind us, the Ohio General Assembly is now over halfway through its legislative session. This point provides us with the opportunity to take stock of where we are and where we want to go. I was proud to support bills last year that created greater workforce opportunities, provided relief and support for Ohio's agriculture industry, and created a better environment for Ohioans to grow and prosper. I am proud of what we accomplished last year, and I am optimistic about the continuing positive impacts we will make on our communities.
