COLUMBUS — State Senator Bob Peterson was named Chairman of the newly-created Finance Subcommittee on General Government by Senate President Keith Faber (R- Celina). As chair, Peterson will play a key role in examining budget issues related to all aspects of government. The subcommittee is one of three created by President Faber as part of an overall restructuring of Senate committees to allow members to more effectively examine complex issues.

Peterson was also named Vice-Chair of the Ways & Means Committee, which examines legislation dealing with tax policy, as well as a member of the budget-writing Finance Committee, the Agriculture Committee, the Energy & Natural Resources Committee and the Insurance & Financial Institutions Committee.

“These assignments will enable me to have a direct role in crafting policy that impacts the state budget, as well as areas that are of direct concern to my constituents – particularly our agriculture and energy industries,” Peterson said. “Our state continues to face numerous challenges, and I am excited to get to work on legislation that will help get people working again and continue Ohio’s economic recovery.”

Peterson was appointed to the Senate in 2012. He previously served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives and as a Fayette County Commissioner. He and his family – the eighth generation of Petersons to farm in the U.S. – raise corn, soybeans, wheat and livestock in Fayette County.

With 2017 behind us, the Ohio General Assembly is now over halfway through its legislative session. This point provides us with the opportunity to take stock of where we are and where we want to go. I was proud to support bills last year that created greater workforce opportunities, provided relief and support for Ohio's agriculture industry, and created a better environment for Ohioans to grow and prosper. I am proud of what we accomplished last year, and I am optimistic about the continuing positive impacts we will make on our communities.
