Senator Peterson speaks during a groundbreaking ceremony, marking the beginning of construction for a $1.6 million lodge at YLA Camp Cave Lake in Pike County.
COLUMBUS -

State Senator Bob Peterson (R-Washington Court House) joined the Youth Leadership Association (YLA) on Tuesday to break ground on a new $1.6 million lodge at the organization's camp location along Cave Lake in Pike County.

Senator Peterson was instrumental in securing $2 million for the project as part of the Ohio's recent capital budget. The state's investment will be used for the construction of the new lodge and other facility improvements, including water, sewer and electrical system upgrades.

Senator Peterson and House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger participated in a groundbreaking ceremony with other supporters of the camp on Tuesday to mark the next phase of the project.

"We're proud of the work this organization is doing to develop our next generation of leaders," said Peterson. "We hope this investment will allow YLA to continue its mission for many years to come."

In addition to YLA, the new facility will be available for schools and other organization to use for camps, retreats and conferences throughout the year.

Set on 700 acres of the region’s most scenic property, Cave Lake includes an ecologically significant cave, a 42-acre lake and hundreds of species of birds, trees and shrubs. YLA purchased the Cave Lake property in 1999 and has been using parts of the land for youth day trips and family camping.
