Columbus - State Senator Charleta B. Tavares (D - Columbus) has been re-appointed as the co-chair of the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission (OCMC). Senator Tavares, along with her colleague Representative Ron Amstutz (R-Wooster), will serve as the co-chair until the committee ends in 2018. When asked about her appointment, Senator Tavares responded:
“The Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission is comprised of 32 members; 20 public members and 12 legislative members. I am proud to receive the support of my colleagues to serve as their co-chair again. When the commission resumes its work next week, we will start by appointing our public members. We look forward to working on issues such as congressional redistricting, legislative term limits, and the initiated statue process as the commission continues to look at ways to bring Ohio’s constitution into the 21st century.”

Senator Tavares is proud to represent the 15th District, which includes the historic neighborhoods of Columbus, the cities of Bexley and Grandview Heights. She also serves as the Assistant Senate Democratic Leader.

May is Mental Health Month sponsored by Mental Health America. This year’s theme is called “B4Stage4” which focuses on diagnosing and addressing mental illnesses before Stage 4 in which symptoms are more severe and difficult to treat.

Mental illnesses are sometimes crippling disorders that affect the lives of millions of Americans and oftentimes go unannounced because of the stigma associated with them.

Today, during Senate Session, Assistant Democratic Leader Charleta B. Tavares (D-Columbus) honored the life of former Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Paul Tipps who died on April 21st at the age of 78. During his tenure, the Ohio Democratic Party controlled all statewide offices in Ohio and the Ohio legislature.
