Senator Cecil Thomas was elected in November 2014 to serve Ohio’s 9th Senate district, which includes parts of Cincinnati, St. Bernard, Elmwood Place, Norwood, Golf Manor, Hollydale, Columbia Township, Silverton and Springfield Township. 

A product of a working class family, Senator Thomas was born in rural Alabama in 1952.  At the age of eight, his family moved to Cincinnati settling into the West End community where he attended St. Anthony Catholic School.  After graduating from Withrow High School, he took a job as a public service worker. COLUMBUS – Today, State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) released the following statement opposing current language in Ohio’s state budget bill – Substitute House Bill 49 – that would allow oil and gas drilling in local parks and other public lands.

 
 

05.05.17 - Senator Thomas Attends Unveiling For "Triple Negative Breast Cancer Awareness" License Plate

 

COLUMBUS – Today, State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) attended the unveiling of the “Triple Negative Breast Cancer Awareness” license plate at the American Cancer Society in Avondale. The idea for the license plate came from Josie Holloman-Adams, president of the Erica J. Holloman Foundation, Inc. and mother of Erica J. Holloman who passed away from TNBC in 2011 at the age of 35. 

 
 

04.10.17 - Senator Thomas Calls On US Senators, Members Of Congress To Stop Deportation Of Hamilton County Mom

 

COLUMBUS – Today, Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) called on Senator Sherrod Brown, Senator Rob Portman and all Congressional representatives to do what they can to stop the deportation of Maribel Trujillo-Diaz to Mexico. Maribel is a working mother of four from Hamilton, Ohio. She is scheduled to be deported tomorrow, April 11th, despite years-long efforts by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati to appeal to legislators on her behalf.

 
 

03.08.17 - Senator Thomas Introduces Bill To Decrease Unnecessary Traffic Stops

 

COLUMBUS – Yesterday, State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) introduced Senate Bill 92, which would downgrade the failure to display a front license plate to a secondary traffic offense. The senator originally introduced this legislation during the 131st General Assembly (GA), after Cincinnati native Sam DuBose was killed during a traffic stop by former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing. DuBose was initially pulled over for failing to display a front license plate.
