COLUMBUS— Today, State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) released the following statement regarding the report by Attorney General Mike DeWine and the Advisory Group on Law Enforcement Training:

“I am happy to see many of the Attorney General’s recommendations mirror what I have proposed within Senate Bill 23. However, the recommendations do not go far enough.

“It is critical that Ohio also establish a process of data collection on interactions between police and the community. In doing so, we can develop best practices that ensure safety for police and communities they serve.

“The recommended increased level of training  requires additional resources and as the Senate debates the state’s operating budget, I urge my colleagues to allocate the necessary funding for more law enforcement training.”
