Senator Thomas testifies before the State and Local Government Committee to reinstate Pete Rose to the MLB.

Columbus—Today, State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) testified before members of the State and Local Government Committee on Senate Concurrent Resolution 4 to urge Commissioner Robert Manfred to reinstate Pete Rose to Major League Baseball. The resolution also encourages the Baseball Writers' Association to consider Pete Rose for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

"Pete Rose is unquestionably a great American athlete," stated Senator Thomas during his testimony. "The way he played the game of baseball reflects many of the values we want to impart on our children, such as maximum effort, hard work, and perseverance."

The 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be held on July 14th at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, the city where Rose spent a majority of his career as a player and manager.

Rose is baseball's all-time hit leader and a 17-time All-Star as well as the winner of three batting titles and two Gold Gloves. He also won three World Series titles, two with the Cincinnati Reds and one with the Philadelphia Phillies. Rose managed the Reds beginning in 1984 until 1989, compiling a record of 426-388, the fifth most wins by a manager in Reds history. He was also one of the few player-managers in baseball history from 1984 to 1986.

The resolution has received bipartisan support in the Ohio Senate. A similar resolution, HCR 15, has been introduced in the Ohio House.
