Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers work tirelessly every day to provide nutritious meals and comfort for Ohio's seniors. Again this year, I was honored to accompany Meals on Wheels team members, helping to deliver meals in Brown County during the 14th Annual March for Meals campaign.

March for Meals is a national campaign which seeks to raise awareness for seniors living in hunger and isolation. The monthlong awareness campaign serves as a call to action for prospective volunteers and financial supporters who Meals on Wheels desperately relies upon. March was chosen to commemorate the month that President Richard Nixon signed the cornerstone legislation which supplies a portion of the financial support that helps to ensure nutrition assistance for millions of seniors age 60 and older. While this year's March for Meals campaign has come to an end, the Meals on Wheels team members carry on with their daily purpose—caring for struggling seniors.

Meals on Wheels allows seniors to live independently and provides reassurance for family members concerned for elderly loved ones. Since its inception 45 years ago, Meals on Wheels has been supported by more than 2 million volunteers nationwide.

Locally, our Meals on Wheels program is administered through the Adams and Brown County Community Action Partnerships (ABCAP). Established in 1965, ABCAP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing self-sufficiency of individuals and families through supportive services and education. As an “umbrella” social service agency, ABCAP provides diverse services to low and moderate income residents of Adams and Brown Counties, Ohio.

Meals on Wheels provides essential services all year long and is continually seeking individuals interested in supporting their efforts. There are several ways that you are able to get involved with Meals on Wheels, whether it is through volunteering, donating or starting a business partnership.

If you or someone you know is interested in donating or volunteering with ABCAP, please visit their website at abcap.net or contact them by phone at 937-378-6041 Ext. 232 or by e-mail at jphillips@abcap.net.
