09.21.17 - Senator Williams Introduces Ohio Anti-Bullying Bills


COLUMBUS— Senator Sandra Williams has introduced two pieces of legislation, Senate Bill 196 and Senate Bill 197 to combat bullying in the State of Ohio. The first bill, SB 197, will require a tiered disciplinary procedure for harassment, intimidation or bullying in school and to make willful harassment, intimidation or bullying of another student a minor misdemeanor under certain circumstances.

CLEVELAND—This weekend, Senator Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland), along with State Representative Janine Boyd and State Representative Stephanie Howse, facilitated an Energy Expo for residents in the Cleveland area. Held at the Third District Police Station, the event attracted over 100 citizens. The Energy Expo consisted of community organizations and agencies with the common goal of educating people about their energy bill options and helping lower their energy bills or set up payment plans if they were struggling to pay their current bill.

COLUMBUS – Tonight, members of the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus expressed opposition to the Senate passage of House Bill 48. This bill expands the areas in which it is legal to carry a concealed firearm to include several high-risk locations. This includes daycares, airports, and several government buildings – such as libraries, City halls, Boards of Elections, and public hospitals.

This bill eases restrictions on puppy mills and removes control from local communities on several different issues – including the ability to raise their own minimum wage.

08.12.16 - Senate Democrats Applaud Judge's Ruling On Funding For Planned Parenthood


COLUMBUS – Today, members of the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus celebrated a federal judge’s decision to block the implementation of a law that would have defunded Planned Parenthood and many other healthcare providers throughout Ohio. Judge Michael R. Barrett of the U.S. District Court in Cincinnati ruled that the law, which the Democratic Caucus opposed in the Ohio Senate, would cause “irreparable injury” to Planned Parenthood. Governor John Kasich had signed House Bill 294 into law in February.

COLUMBUS— Today, State Senator Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland) delivered sponsor testimony to the Senate Transportation, Commerce and Labor Committee on Senate Bill 228, which would prohibit the use of non-compete provisions in employment contracts in the broadcast industry. In Ohio, nearly two dozen radio and television personalities are out of work, in their chosen field, due to non-compete clauses.

02.11.16 - Senator Williams Introduces Legislation To Remove The Grand Jury Process From The Ohio Constitution


COLUMBUS— State Senator Sandra Williams introduced Senate Joint Resolution 4 to amend Section 10 of Article I of the Constitution of the State of Ohio. This legislation will eliminate the grand jury process from the Constitution and will allow for the process to be reformed and reviewed by the Ohio legislature.

COLUMBUS— State Senator Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland) has introduced Senate Bill 256, which would require law enforcement officers to collect data and maintain information from all motor vehicle stops, questionings, and delays to determine whether bias-based policing factored into these actions. COLUMBUS—State Senator Sandra R. Williams (D-Cleveland) announced today that the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission has approved funding for the Burke Mansion community project through its cultural facilities grant program. The Cleveland Music School Settlement, which serves as the owner and operator, will use over $250,000 to replace the HVAC system at the Burke Mansion.

Columbus –Today, Senator Sandra R. Williams (D-Cleveland) testified before the Ohio Senate State and Local Government Committee on her legislation that would establish the Ohio Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) to conceal the addresses of victims of stalking, sexual assault, and other violent crimes. Senate Bill 83 would allow Ohioans who fear their safety is threatened to use a placeholder mailing address and would prohibit the disclosure of a participant’s address in the public record.
