This week, state Senator Teresa Fedor (D-Toledo) discussed Ohio’s legislative efforts to fight human trafficking during a Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women event. The event was hosted by the Zonta Club of Findlay, a branch of the Zonta International organization that aims to empower women worldwide through service and advocacy.

“The Zonta Club was one of my first partners in the fight to end human trafficking,” Senator Fedor said. “Now, 16 years later, I’m inspired by the progress that has been made in Ohio and across the country. With the guidance of Shared Hope International, Ohio has increased its efforts to combat this insidious and growing issue.”

During the event, Fedor spoke about Share Hope International’s recently released state report card and its new, advanced legislative framework that is guiding her work to raise Ohio’s grade.  She presented alongside seven other advocates including Ryan Fausnaugh of the Center for Safe and Healthy Children and Sherri Garner Brumbaugh who owns Garner Trucking, Inc. and Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT).

“Victims must have a path to support services without having to go through the criminal justice system,” Fedor said. “It is time for Ohio to reimagine its definition of justice and evolve its approach to better protect human trafficking victims.”
